Are binaural beats the magic cure to relieve stress, reduce anxiety and recover?

We have a favourite meditation habit.

And it doesn’t involve candles or sweet-smelling incense sticks.

It’s binaural beats.

Earphones connected, tuned in, we’re ready for sudden and deep relaxation. We retreat to a quiet space, get comfortable, keep a straight back, hips higher than our knees, and press play. This is how you’ll find us for a few minutes most days. We’re not alone either; experimental music known as binaural beats is having a moment.

When listened to in headphones, binaural beats present one sound in one ear and a subtly different one in the other ear – we’re talking two pure tones, set to a certain pair of frequencies – which, when combined, become a new tone. It’s referred to as a ‘frequency mismatch’, prompting your brain to sync up to a wavelength.

But are binaural beats the magic cure to relieve present-day stress and reduce anxiety? Good question. Even though binaural beats have been a topic since the 1800s, mainstream science is still on the fence about their effects on focus and performance. Now, we’re no experts, but we certainly find something stimulating about these sounds, so urge you to keep an open mind on the topic.

Life can feel frantic at times and we have a tendency to apply that same energy to the pedals. It can be hard to know if we’re cycling towards progress, on the spot, or away from something. How often do we stop? We wouldn’t be surprised if cycling has a double role in your life as a rolling therapist, but the ultimate way to quieten your brain – in our experience – is meditation.

So on that note, is it time for you to sit down? Is it time you thought about how much of you is left in reserve? When the universe is yelling at us to work harder, ride harder, and be better, meditation gives us a feeling of peace and a sense of accomplishment for tuning in and working on ourselves at a deeper level. It loosens our mind, resets us, and helps us to manage our feelings.
Through the choice of frequencies – which you can discover in our Spotify playlist by signing up below – we tailor our meditation to a certain purpose, whether it’s relieving muscle fatigue, lowering cortisol levels, eliminating toxins, removing limiting beliefs, or undoing emotional patterns. Does the music coming through our headphones make it better? Is all of this recovery and/or energetic work rendered more effective through binaural beats?

As with everything, it’s a matter of personal belief, practice, and having patience. It may take time to see results unfold in front of your eyes. We can’t say for certain, but we’re about to plug our headphones back in.
